French Drain in Basement

When there's a lot of water outside, you can almost bet there will be water inside. Specifically in the basement. The house has two large cisterns in the basement, designed to hold rain water so the place was designed to direct water INTO the basement. Now we have to figure out how to carry it away. Rick dug out a series of drainage ditches to do just that. He looks like an old time miner in this picture but, believe me, there is no gold in these here parts. While he was in the basement, digging a trench for the drainage pipes, I was wheeling crushed stone over the moat that is now surrounding the house...
